A New Era Begins in Salgótarján: Construction Underway for the City’s First STOP SHOP Retail Park

Salgótarján is entering a new chapter: construction has begun on the region’s newest STOP SHOP retail park, located next to Lidl in the city center. Developed by CPI Hungary, the project will bring not only new shopping opportunities but also a modern, sustainable, and community-friendly environment to the capital of Nógrád Country.

The building, spanning over 7,500 square meters, will host 12 stores, including well-known brands such as Euronics, dm, Ecofamily, Háda, Retro, and DRK (Dorko). Retro and DRK will open their first stores in the city, offering something new and exciting for local residents. Visitors will enjoy a spacious parking area, bicycle racks, electric vehicle charging stations, and restrooms, making the retail park easily accessible by car, bike, or public transport.

Family-friendly design also plays an important role: a playground will be built within the STOP SHOP area, offering pleasant recreation for families. The parking lots and pedestrian paths will be fully accessible, while the spacious areas and green spaces will create a friendly and well-organized atmosphere.

The building will feature energy-efficient heating and lighting systems, low water consumption fixtures, sustainable waste management, and renewable energy solutions, ensuring environmentally conscious operation in the long term.

Extensive preparation and thorough research preceded the Salgótarján STOP SHOP project, so we are especially pleased that construction is now underway. This development is of great importance for both the city and the region, as excellent tenants are arriving who will bring new energy to Salgótarján’s retail scene. We are already looking forward to the grand opening,” said Balázs Sipos, Senior Retail Asset Manager at CPI Hungary.

CPI Hungary aims for the Salgótarján STOP SHOP to be more than just a shopping destination — it aspires to become a new meeting point for the local community. The retail park is expected to create nearly 100 new jobs, and together with the contractor KÉSZ Építő és Szerelő Zrt., the developer is committed to involving local businesses in the construction process, further strengthening the city’s economy and community.

In Hungary, CPI Hungary manages 14 STOP SHOPs with a total of 170,000 square meters of retail space and 320 tenants. The Salgótarján development will join this successful international network, ensuring the familiar STOP SHOP quality: easy accessibility, clear layouts, quick shopping, and a friendly atmosphere.

Construction is already underway, and the opening is scheduled for the first quarter of 2027. With the arrival of the new STOP SHOP, Salgótarján will gain not only a modern retail park but also a greener, more livable, and economically stronger urban environment.
